Australian duo who make superb shoegaze indie rock a la 4AD bands. Fantastic guitar & bass interplay, with alternating male & female vocals. Check out "Voices" (www.youtube.com/watch), insistent, catchy as hell and very moving. A band to look out for.
Favorite track: Voices.

"Earache's debut LP 'Last' captures the Canberra/Melbourne two piece at the intersection between fuzzed slowcore and beautiful shoegaze. Dreamy--no, ethereal--guitar and bass work together amidst layers of dual vocal back-and-forth over the 8 tracks. Gemma Nourse (bass; No Stars, Shopgirl) and David Fenderson (guitar; Territory, Sob Story, Cure) follow on from their teaser cassette release (Voices b/w Parasite) with this full-length album. Released on 12" vinyl through Lacklustre and Black Wire Records."
"…hard not to love the original, arguably one of the Reid brothers' most poptastic tunes, featuring more hooks than a row of anglers and with the gorgeous vocals of Hope Sandoval the absolute cherry on top… However, Hatchie and Kip Berman’s The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart version - while faithful and respectful to the original - adds a delightful shimmering and dreamy sheen…"
This is my favorite Sleater-Kinney album actually. The hooks are catchier than ever and set side-by-side with St. Vincent's production techniques and synths and whatnot they stand out and punch even harder. euphratean
